February 24, 1913 ~ May 28, 2004THORNTON — Vera Leona Thada, 91, of Thornton, died Friday (May 28, 2004) at the Muse-Norris Hospice Inpatient Unit in Mason City. Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Tuesday at the St. Paul Evangelical Lutheran Church in Thornton, with the Rev. Robert Hetrick presiding. Interment will be in Pleasant View Cemetery in Thornton. Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. today at the Retz-Grarup Funeral Home in Thornton.
Vera Leona Thada was born Feb. 25, 1913, in Latimer, the daughter of Emmanuel and Clara (Ericksen) Guldberg. She graduated from Thornton High School and worked at Mabbs Grocery Store for several years.
On June 20, 1937, Vera was united in marriage with Stanley L. Thada at the St. Paul Lutheran Church in Thornton. They celebrated their 50th anniversary in 1987. Stanley died in March 1993.
Vera was a lifetime member of the St. Paul Evangelical Lutheran Church. She has lived in the Oakwood Care Center in Clear Lake for the last two years.Vera is survived by her two sons, Dennis (Carolyn) Thada, of Clear Lake and Keith (Jenny) Thada, of Mason City; also surviving her are five grandchildren: Mark (Cheryl) Thada, Dawn (Steve) Dieken, Dee Dee (Jim) Kantaris, Shannon (John) Heinzerling, and Meagan (Jim) Wittnebel; 12 great-grandchildren; and a brother, Clarence Leonard (Gwethlyn) Guldberg, of Edina, Minn.
Vera is preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Stanley; and a brother, Leland.
Memorials may be directed to Hospice of North Iowa in her memory.
