Obituary - Dwain L. Nicolet
December 13, 1925 ~ May 22, 2008

Dwain L. Nicolet, 82, Belmond, died May 22, 2008 at Muse Norris Hospice in Mason City. Services were held May 27 at St. Paul Evangelical Lutheran Church in Thornton with Pastor Milton D. Johnson presiding. Interment with veteran's honors was at Pleasant View Cemetery, Thornton.

Dwain was born December 13, 1925 at Thornton, the son of Armand and Katherine (Henricksen) Nicolet. He was confirmed in March 1940 at St. Paul E.LC. He graduated from Thornton High School in 1944. He enlisted in the Reserve Corps of the Army Air Force on December 29, 1943 and entered service on June 3, 1944, serving as a tail gunner at various air bases in the U.S. and Japan. He received his honorable discharge on May 18, 1946.

Dwain married Thelma Floy at St. Paul E.L.C. on June 13, 1948. They moved to a farm west of Thornton where they lived for 49 years, moving to Belmond in September 1997. They enjoyed many winters in Texas and summers at Leech Lake, MN. Dwain's hobbies were woodworking, wood carving and fishing.

He was preceded in death by his parents; sister Lorene Harthan; brother Victor; and nephew Timothy Harthan.

Dwain is survived by his wife; children Cindy (Jim) Petersen of Des Moines, Jo Ellen (Larry) Swenson of Belmond and Scott (Christine) of Round Rock, TX; grandchildren Jennifer (Max) Peterson, Angie Heiden, Heather Swenson, Michael Petersen, Amy Petersen, Brian Nicolet and Sarah Nicolet; six great-grandchildren; and brothers Larry (Dorothy) Nicolet of Des Moines and Jules (Judy) Nicolet of Madison, WI. along with his many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, sister Lorene Harthan, brother Victor, and nephew Timothy Harthan.

Memorials may be given to the St. Paul Lutheran Church of Thornton in his name.
