Obituary - Mavis O. (Thada) Hobbiebrunken
April 05, 1928 ~ December 30, 2012

Clear Lake – Mavis O. Hobbiebrunken, 84, Clear Lake, formerly of the Thornton area, died Sunday, Dec. 30, 2012, at Oakwood Care Center, Clear Lake.

A funeral service for Mavis will be held at 11:00 A.M. Thursday, January 3, 2013, at the St. Paul Lutheran Church, 413 Elm Street, Thornton, with Reverend Rhea Evanson officiating. Burial will be in the Pleasant View Cemetery in Thornton. Visitation will be held from 5:00 P.M. until 7:00 P.M. on Wednesday at the Ward-Van Slyke Colonial Chapel, 101 North 4th Street, Clear Lake. Visitation will also be held one hour prior to service time on Wednesday at the church.

Those wishing to give a memorial in her memory may wish to consider memorial contributions to the St. Paul Lutheran Church.

Mavis O. Hobbiebrunken was born on April 5, 1928, in Mason City, the daughter of Arthur and Emma (Bertelsen) Thada. Mavis attended and graduated from Thornton High School in 1945. Mavis was united in marriage to Werner Hobbiebrunken on August 15, 1945, in Thornton, and to this union three children were born, Lexe, Lana, and Kim. After their marriage, they farmed in the Thornton area, until they retired and moved to Clear Lake.

Mavis enjoyed baking, cooking and always had coffee and cookies for her family and friends. Her greatest joy was spending time with her family and friends.

Mavis was a member of St. Paul Lutheran Church, Thornton, Iowa.

Those left to cherish her memory are her three daughters, Lexe (Howard) Chambers of Bemidji, MN, Lana Lee of West Des Moines, and Kim (Bill) Mainprize of Charles City; three grandchildren, Jennifer (Brad) Prugh of Chicago, Ill, Matthew (Heather) Mainprize of North Liberty, and Megan (Fred) Castle of Ames and a great grandson Tyler Prugh as well as many other extended family members and friends.

Mavis was preceded in death by her parents; husband Werner and sister Delores Hudson.
