April 05, 1942 ~ August 27, 2012John Henricksen, 70, of Rockwell, passed away Monday, Aug. 27, 2012, at Muse Norris Hospice Inpatient Unit in Mason City.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, Aug. 30, at St. Peter Lutheran Church, Rockwell, with the Rev. Rhea Evanson presiding. Interment will be at Pleasant View Cemetery, Thornton. Visitation will be 4-7 p.m. Wednesday at Retz Funeral Home, Sheffield.
John Anthony Henricksen was born Easter Sunday, April 5, 1942, in Thornton, son of Bernhart Carl and Lilly Caroline (Kofoed) Henricksen. He was baptized at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Thornton and attended early elementary school in Thornton.
During the fifth grade John's family moved to Rockwell. John was confirmed at St. Peter Lutheran Church and graduated with the first class of the Rockwell-Swaledale Consolidated School. While in high school John was active in sports, particularly excelling in baseball.
On Nov. 19, 1961, John was united in marriage with Donna Lou Nachazel at St. Peter Lutheran Church in Rockwell. They made their home in Rockwell, where they raised their four children. John worked for Cerro Gordo County in the Secondary Roads Department, retiring after 30 years.
John was a loving family man who was very proud of his family. He loved listening to music and enjoyed playing and watching sports, especially his children's and grandchildren's games. He played fastpitch softball for many years and loved spending time on the golf course. He served for a time on the Linn Grove Golf Course board.
Living family members include his wife, Donna, Rockwell; children, Kathy (Michael) Platts, Mason City; Jim (Jill) Henricksen, St. Paul, Minn., and Sherie (Ken) Smith, Linden, Iowa; grandchildren, Kris (Peter) Bieber, Greg (Katie) Platts, Mathew (Elizabeth) Platts, Laura (Cyle) Calhoun, Patrick Platts, Thomas Culbert, Jacquelyn Culbert, Lindsay Smith, Nathan Henricksen and Samuel Henricksen; four great-grandchildren; sister, Susan (George) Fowler, Clear Lake, Wis.; and three nieces.
He is preceded in death by his parents and daughter, Jeanette Culbert.
