AUGUST FOLKMANN

CLEAR LAKE – August E. “Gus” Folkmann, 88, of 914 N. 10th St., Clear Lake, died Friday (May 10, 1991) at his home.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Monday at Zion Lutheran Church, with Rev. Murley Severtson officiating. Burial will be in Clear Lake Cemetery.

Visitation will be after 3 today at Ward-Van Slyke Colonial Chapel, 101 N. Fourth, Clear Lake, and one hour prior to services at the church on Monday.

Memorials may be given to Hospice of North Iowa, the Lutheran Hour or Handicap Village.

August E. Folkmann was born Aug. 11, 1902, in Iowa Township near Williamsburg, the son of Henry B. and Katherine (Maas) Folkmann. His early years were spent farming in Iowa County. He ran and operated a silver fox ranch in Conroy. He Married Louise Eaker June 14, 1932, in Conroy. In 1934 they moved to Clear Lake to go into the silver fox business with Bill Hofer. In 1936 he was engaged in the dairy business as the owner of Folkmann’s Dairy and Folkmann’s Dairy De-Lite, for 30 years. He sold his business to Marigold Dairies in 1968.

He established Folkmann’s Shooting Supplies, and served the gun customers of the area for 30 years. He was a member of and manager of the Trap Shoot of the Clear Lake Rifle and Pistol Club. He was also a lifetime member of the National Rifle Association. He was an avid hunter and trap shooter. He enjoyed many exciting hunting trips in the U.S., Canada and Alaska. He was a member of Zion Lutheran Church in Clear Lake for more than 50 years.

Survivors include his wife, Louise Folkmann of Clear Lake, two sons, Robert and his wife Barbara Folkmann of Ames, and Gordon and his wife Bonnie Folkmann of Dallas; two daughters, Barbara and her husband, Kermit Finstad of Gettysburg, Pa., and Kathryn and her husband Robert Jones, Burnsville, Minn.; one sister, Emma Folkmann of British Colombia, Canada; 16 grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, four brothers and sisters.
