Archie Beal Dies While Driving; Rites Monday

Garner - Funeral services for Archie H. Beal, 62, prominent Ellington Township farmer, will be held at the Miller Lutheran Church at 2 p.m. Monday. The Rev. Arnold Edwards will officiate. Burial will be in the Memorial Park Cemetery, Mason City. Bohn Funeral home of Garner is in charge. The Garner VFW and American Legion will conduct military rites.

Beal died suddenly Friday from a heart attack while driving along the highway north of Garner to Miller. His car was found in a cornfield one half mile south of Miller at noon. Deputy Sheriff Gregg Arnold and Patrolman Elmer Angle investigated. They called a local physician who advised that Beal had apparently suffered a heart attack while driving.

Archie H. Beal, son of William and Mattie Beal, was born Aug. 18, 1895, at New Sharon, Sept. 2, 1926, he was married to Laura Larson at Hampton.

Beal served with the armed forces in World War I and was a member of the Gifford Olson Post of the American Legion and Edwin Jante Post of the VFW.

Surviving are his wife, Laura, one son Robert, of Miller; one daughter, Mrs. Louis (Maxine) Urich, Britt; his mother, Mrs. Mattie Beal, Mason City; two brothers, Cecil and John Donald Beal, both of Mason City; four sisters, Mrs. Max (Eva) Beckman, Des Moines; Myrtle Cordes, Mason City; Mrs. Donald (Opal) Larson, Mason City; Mrs. Melvin (Marguerite) Eckard, Clear Lake, and six grandchildren.
