LEILA E. OEHLERT

CLEAR LAKE – Leila E. Oehlert, 92, of Clear Lake, died Friday (Jan. 15, 1993) at St. Joseph Mercy Hospital, Mason City.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Tuesday at Clear Lake United Methodist Church, 508 Second Ave. S., with the Rev. Frederick Lewis officiating. Burial will be in the Clear Lake Cemetery.

Visitation will begin at 4 p.m. Monday at Ward-Van Slyke Colonial Chapel, 101 N. Fourth St., and one hour prior to service time Tuesday at the church.

Leila E. Oehlert was born Aug. 15, 1900, in Iowa Falls, the daughter of John Henry and Rose Emma (Beamish) King. She married Julius C. Oehlert on June 26, 1920, in Mason City.

She grew up in Tracy, Minn., until moving to the Hampton and Iowa Falls area where she attended rural schools and the Iowa Falls normal school. After her marriage, she and her husband lived on farms around Clear Lake until buying a farm near Hanlontown where they lived for 10 years. They moved back to Clear Lake in 1960. She worked at the Silver Boot Motel.

She liked gardening and flowers. She loved her family, especially the little ones. She enjoyed traveling and she wintered in California for 21 years. She was a 50-year member of the Methodist Church, a member of United Methodist Women, Royal Neighbors, Grandmother Club, charter member of Amvets, and she helped organize the Sing and Sew Club. She was a 20-year member of the flower guild of the Methodist Church, a 10-year volunteer at Village Store, and a member of Friendly Garden Club, and lakeside Ladies Aid.

Survivors include a son, Howard M. Oehlert and wife, Verna, Clear lake; a daughter, Mrs. Oscar (Maxine) Davis, Clear Lake; seven grandchildren, Richard, David and Garry Oehlert, all of Clear Lake, Darlene Robinette, Thousand Oaks, Calif., Mrs. Byron )Linda) Smeby, Klemme, Ronald A. David, Ventura, and Mrs. Jerry (Rosann) Fredin, Wichita, Kan.; 11 great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandson; and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband in 1957; one sister and one granddaughter.
