VERN OXLEY

Vern Oxley was born Feb. 11, 1894 to Louisa (Hugh) and George Oxley on a farm near rural Clear Lake, where he spent his entire life. He was educated in the Eden school nearby and attended the Pioneer Church of Congregational faith. In 1918 Vern was called into World War I and served part of the year in France. Upon his return he farmed until his recent retirement. He enjoyed gardening and flowers, was a member of Eden Farm club for over fifty years and was also a member of the American Legion.

Mr. Oxley passed away early Monday morning, Aug. 28, at the hospital following a short illness.

Services were held Wed. Aug. 30, in the Congregational Church with the Rev. Kenneth Ubbelohde officiating.

Active pallbearers were Dale Spilman, Wayne Spilman, Sam Spilman, Carroll Etchen, Orville Stinehard, and Clare Olson. Honorary pallbearers were Mark Arneson, Edward Boyle, Elmer Eddy, Orval Spilman, Leo Stork, Louis Schuler, Walt Wood, Ted Truax, Orval Butenhoff and LeRoy French. Interment was in the Clear Lake Cemetery.

He was preceded in death by his parents, four sisters, Mabel, Alice, Mrs. Shirley (Ruby) Stanfield and Mrs. Pearl Hickok and two brothers, Harry and Will.

He is survived by a niece, Mrs. Marcia Shaffer and two great-nephews, Larry Shaffer of Ventura and Arlen Shaffer of Portersville, California, and a number of cousins.

Arrangements were by Ward-Van Slyke Colonial Chapel.

NOTE – Vern Oxley was born February 11, 1894, died August 28, 1978 and was buried in the Clear Lake Cemetery Section 2 Row 13.
