JOYCE JUNE MOHR

Joyce June Mohr, 79, passed away on Thursday, Dec. 3, 2009 at her home in Clear Lake.

Funeral services were held Monday, Dec. 7, at the Ward-Van Slyke Colonial Chapel, Clear Lake, with the Rev. Ed Bard, chaplain of Hospice of North Iowa. Private graveside services were at the Eastlawn Cemetery in Algona, Iowa. Memorials may be made to Hospice of North Iowa or the Clear Lake V.F.W.

Joyce was born on Aug. 17, 1930 in Algona, the daughter of Godfrey and Florence Geilenfeld. She graduated from Burt High School, Burt, Iowa in 1947. She was active in girl’s basketball, band, choir and cheerleading. She attended Northern Iowa University and received a college degree in education from Drake University, Des Moines, Iowa.

Joyce was an elementary teacher in various schools in Iowa for 27 years. She retired in 1977. She met her husband, Darrold Mohr, while teaching in Ayrshire, Iowa. They were married on July 1, 1955 in Burt.

Joyce and Darrold moved to Clear Lake in 1977 and opened Mohr for Her, a ladies ready-to-wear store. Joyce enjoyed going to market, displaying merchandise and greeting the customers.

Following the closing of Mohr for Her in 1995 she and Darrold bought an acreage in Mason City and a horse named Aaron. Joyce realized a life-long dream of riding and caring for her own horse.

Joyce was an avid Iowa Hawkeye fan, going to regular season games plus a number of bowl games.

Joyce was a member of the Presbyterian Church.

Joyce’s joys in her life were teaching, being a storeowner, her horse, Aaron and a number of cats.

Survivors include her husband of 54 years, Darrold Mohr of Clear Lake; a brother, Allen (Joan) Geilenfeld of Clear Lake and their children, Andrew, Rachel and Hannah; also sister-in-law, Ruth Geilenfeld of Mason City and her daughter, Linda (Tom) Schaefer of Florida and son, Steve Geilenfeld of San Diego, Calif.

She was preceded in death by a brother, Gene Geilenfeld and her parents, Godfrey and Florence Geilenfeld.
