CLEAR LAKE — Shirley Deane Conwell, 78, 1200 10th Ave N., Clear Lake, died Monday (April 10, 2006) at Mercy Medical Center-North Iowa in Mason City.

A memorial service will be held at 1 p.m. Friday, April 14, 2006, at the Galilean Lutheran Church, Hwy 18 W., Clear Lake, Iowa, with the Rev. Jeff Ungs officiating. Inurnment will be at Memorial Park Cemetery, Hwy 122, Mason City. Military honors will be presented by the Clear Lake V.F.W.

Visitation will be held from 5 to 8 p.m. Thursday at the Ward-Van Slyke Colonial Chapel, 101 N. Fourth St., Clear Lake.

Memorials may be given to the Deane Conwell Memorial Fund.

Deane was born July 20, 1927, in Mason City, the son of Fred Henry and Helen Lucy (Rickard) Conwell. Following school he entered the U.S. Air Force for 16½ years. Deane served during World War II and the Korean Wars. On returning home, he attended and graduated from Iowa State College with a B.S. degree. He worked for General Electric in Burlington.

He married Mildred D. Wyatt on Sept. 20, 1974, in Miami, Okla. They moved to Clear Lake in 1979. He worked at Unisys for 7 years in computers, as a computer deck builder, and drove the bus for Opportunity Village for 12 years.

He enjoyed fishing, hunting, bowling and chatting with everybody. Deane was a member of Galilean Lutheran Church and the Clear Lake V.F.W. and the American Legion.

Deane is survived by his wife, Mildred Conwell of Clear Lake; daughter, Deanna Bruff of Washington; four sons: Randy Conwell of Arizona, Mike Conwell, Peter Conwell and Scott Conwell, all of Iowa; three step-children: Deloma Wyatt and Tamela McElroy, both of Iowa, and Nelson Wyatt of Pennsylvania; sister, Margie Conwell of Mason City; brother, Dick Conwell and his wife, Barbara, of Humeston; and several grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Deane was preceded in death by his parents, two sons and one daughter.
