ALTA B. MATZEN

Alta B. Matzen, 94, of Clear Lake, died Saturday, Feb. 18, 1995, at the Good Shepherd Care Center, Mason City, Iowa.

Funeral services were held Tuesday, Feb. 21, at the United Methodist Church, Clear Lake, with the Rev. Fred Lewis officiating. Burial was in the Memorial Park Cemetery, Mason City. The family suggests memorials in her name.

Alta was born Jan. 13, 1901, on a farm in rural Rockwell, Iowa, the daughter of Broudeson Nielsen and Ann Nielsen (nee) Bohnson. She attended rural school.

On Nov. 29, 1922, she married Paul H. Matzen in rural Rockwell. The couple lived northeast of Mason City, in Falls Township, and farmed. In 1952, they moved to Greenfield, Mo., where they raised chickens. They moved to the Clear Lake and Ventura area in the late 1970s. She moved to the Good Shepherd Care Center in Mason City in 1990. Alta enjoyed playing cards, especially 500, Kings in the Corner and Rook.

She is survived by two daughters, June Ransom and her husband, Keith, Ventura, and Marjorie Walls and her husband, Don, Clear Lake; a son, Paul A. Matzen Jr., Manly, Iowa; a sister, Eleanor Green, Clear Lake; 10 grandchildren, Nancy Gerardi, Julie Holloway, Duane Ransom, Doug Ransom, Richard Walls, Cindy Washburn, Steve Matzen, Scott Matzen, Daryle Matzen and Darla Matzen; 12 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild.

She was preceded in death by her husband in 1990; two grandchildren, Gary Ransom and Dixie Walls; eight sisters
