JANET MARIE HEINZ

MASON CITY — Janet Marie Heinz, 75, died on Sunday (Aug. 19, 2007) at the Muse Norris Hospice Inpatient Unit after she courageously fought a five-year battle with cancer.

Memorial services will be held 2:30 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 25, at the Major Erickson Funeral Home, 111 N. Pennsylvania Ave., with the Rev. Kathy Graves of Trinity Lutheran Church officiating. Inurnment will be held at a later date.

There will be a gathering of friends and family held one hour prior the service on Saturday. Memorials may be directed to Hospice of North Iowa, Trinity Lutheran Church or the Lime Creek Nature Center.

Janet was born Friday, Nov. 13, 1931, in Rockwell, Iowa, the oldest daughter of Powers and Velva (Scholl) Rowe. She grew up in Clear Lake, graduated from high school there in 1949, and was proudly employed as a lifeguard at “city beach” and worked at the Outing Club and also at Imperial Seed Co. all at Clear Lake. Later she was employed at the Standard Oil district office in Mason City and as church secretary at both St. Paul Lutheran and First Presbyterian Churches in Mason City.

Janet was married to Al Heinz on April 27, 1952 (they met at the Surf Ballroom), celebrating 55 years of marriage this spring.

She was a member of P.E.O. (chapter KW) of Mason City, the Red Hat Society in Texas and served as president of the Jefferson Elementary School PTA in Mason City. She also volunteered for many years at North Iowa Medical Center and Mercy Hospital.

Other interests included her companion dogs, playing bridge, crafting ceramics, enjoying life as a winter Texan for the past 20 years, trips to Padre Island, Texas, weekend camping and get-a-way’s to northwest Iowa and later the Mississippi River, vacations to Hawaii and twice to Alaska.

She is survived by her husband, Al Heinz, of Mason City; daughter, Janelle (Ken) Peterson; son, Fred (Cheri Ross) Heinz; grandsons, Eric Peterson and Kyle (Sara) Peterson; great-grandson, Tyler Peterson; sister, Shirley Ausenhus; brother-in-law, Paul (Jean) Heinz; nieces and nephews in the Mason City area, Brice (Dawn) Ausenhus, Melissa (Bob) Thoms, Jeff (Brenda) Heinz, Brian Heinz, Howard (Janel) Heinz, and Nancy (Glen) VanderPlas.

She was preceded in death by her parents; brothers-in-law, Dean Ausenhus, S.H. Heinz; and sister-in-law, Norma Kliven.
