MARIE HAMANN

VENTURA — Marie Hamann, 96, of Ventura, died Sunday (July 4, 2004) at the Muse-Norris Hospice Inpatient Unit in Mason City.

A funeral service will be held 10:30 a.m. Friday at Redeemer Lutheran Church in Ventura, with the Rev. Daird W. Korth officiating. Interment will be held at Memorial Park Cemetery in Mason City.

Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Thursday at Ward-Van Slyke Colonial Chapel, 101 N. Fourth St. in Clear Lake. Visitation will also be one hour prior to service time on Friday at the church.

The family of Marie Hamann has requested that memorial contributions be made to Redeemer Lutheran Church in Ventura or Hospice of North Iowa in her memory.

Marie was born Oct. 3, 1907, in Adel, Iowa, the daughter of Fred E. and Virgie (Potter) Wilson. Marie attended school in Clear Lake.

She was united in marriage to George Hamann on July 3, 1925. He preceded her in death in 1977. In 1934, George and Marie built the Heidelberg Supper Club in Luana, Iowa, and owned and operated the supper club until 1952.

In 1958, the family began farming in the rural Ventura area and after her husband’s death in 1977, Marie continued to farm until the time of her death. She loved and enjoyed taking care of the farm, gardening, and flowers.

She was the oldest member of Redeemer Lutheran Church in Ventura and was also a member of the Dorcas Society.

Left to cherish her memory is her daughter, Betty Nolan of Naperville, Ill.; four great-grandchildren, William C. Nolan III, of Aurora, Ill., Carolyn Nolan of Aurora, Jeffrey Kennedy of Naperville, and Meghan Kennedy of Naperville; a brother, Bill Wilson and his wife, Elsie, of Ventura; many nieces and nephews as well as other relatives and friends.

Besides her husband she was also preceded in death by her parents, two grandchildren, William C. Nolan Jr., and Carol Kennedy; a great-grandson, John Nolan; five brothers, Harold, Nile, Jim, George, and Henry Wilson; and two sisters, Margie Walker and Mary Byerly.
