Visitation will be held from 2 until 4 p.m. today at Hogan Bremer Moore Colonial Chapel in Mason City, 126 Third St. N.E., and one hour prior to service time Monday at the church.

Her family and friends knew Marian only as “Maxine.” Maxine was born on Feb. 4, 1924, on a farm in rural Burchinal, Iowa, the daughter of Floyd and Leila (Best) Rowe. She received her education from Swaledale Schools and graduated with the Class of 1941.

Maxine was united in marriage to Clarence E. Miller in October of 1946 at the Little Brown Church in Nashua, Iowa. To this marriage two children were born. Maxine later married Roger Chaney in 1976.

Maxine worked for Zanios Foods and AMPI before she married Clarence. After marriage, she had many part-time jobs but most of the time she was a homemaker. She was always there for her children when they came home from school. Her greatest joy was her family and she loved spending time with her children, grandchildren, and her great-grandchildren.

Maxine loved to cook for her family, and especially loved making holiday meals. In later years, she loved to watch the cooking channel and would spend hours reading recipes. She loved flowers and spent many hours in her flower beds. She also loved gardening and canning. Maxine would can many quarts of tomatoes each year for her spaghetti sauces and soup. Oyster stew was something she looked forward to each fall.

She also loved to play cards, puzzles, and Scrabble. Maxine could always be found gathered around the kitchen table for a card game. She loved going to the Mississippi River and tried to make that a yearly occurrence, most of the time with her children and grandchildren. Roger and Maxine enjoyed traveling to California and Washington, D.C.

She is survived by her two daughters, Rhonda (Chip) Hurd of Mason City, and Sandra (David) Gobeli, of Hancock; three grandchildren, Ashlee (Josh) Madole, of Mason City, Ivan Hurd III, of Mason City, and Christopher (Samantha) Gobeli, of Britt; two great-grandsons, Ian and Isaac Gobeli, of Britt; one sister, Bonnie (Robert) Arnold, of Albert Lea, Minn.; and one brother, Dale (Jean) Rowe, of Rockwell; as well as many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

Maxine was preceded in death by her parents; husband Roger; and two brothers, Donald and Daniel Rowe.
