LEO JOHN STEALY

Leo John Stealy, 77, 2207 14th Ave N., Clear Lake, died Wednesday, Aug. 5, 2009 at the North Iowa Mercy Medical Center, Mason City, Iowa. A funeral service was held Saturday, Aug. 8, at Galilean Lutheran Church, Clear Lake, with the Rev. Jeff Ungs officiating. Interment was at Memorial Park Cemetery, Highway 122 W., Mason City. Memorials may be given to Galilean Lutheran Church, Clear Lake.

Leo was born Oct. 24, 1931 in Newton, Iowa, the son of Arthur and Helen (Kern) Stealy. At the age of three months, he and his brothers and sister were placed in the Lutheran Children’s Home in Waverly, Iowa. He was there for 13 years, then moved to Waterloo, Iowa. He graduated from Geneso High School in 1950.

Leo married Lou Groseclose on June 20, 1952 at the First Lutheran Church, Waterloo. He worked as a milkman at a dairy in Waterloo. In 1961 he moved to Northwood, Mason City and then Clear Lake in 1969 where he was an agency manager for the Farm Bureau Insurance Agency of Worth, Cerro Gordo and Hancock County, retiring in 1996 after 35 years of service.

Leo was recognized with many honors in Farm Bureau Insurance. Leo was an avid Hawkeye fan, loved fishing and cars. His family was the love of his life. Leo was a member of Galilean Lutheran Church, Clear Lake and past member of the Clear Lake Noon Lions.

Leo is survived by his wife, Lou Stealy, Clear Lake; five children, Jeff (Mary) Stealy, Ventura, Louanne (Brad) Bonin, Clear Lake, Dan Stealy, Clear Lake, Sue (Scott) Brandt, Ventura, and Julie (Dave) Rickard, Clear Lake; ten grandchildren, Jennifer (Mark) Krinhop, Heather (Tom) Morin, Teresa (Casey) Schlichting, Ben Stealy, Katie Bonin, Molly Bonin, Jacob Rickard, Brock Brandt, Dalton Brandt and Luke Brandt; seven great-grandchildren, Max Roberts, Sam and Timothy Krinhop, Ella and Thomas Morin, Josie and Jack Schlichting; foster granddaughter, Loan (Houng) Nuygen and foster great-grandchildren, John and Grace, Littleton, Colo., (Loan – foster daughter of Jeff and Mary); brothers Donald (Virginia) Stealy, Crosby, Minn. and Arthur James (Dorothy) Stealy, Denver, Colo.; step-sister, Margaret Doermann, Anamosa, Iowa and several nieces and nephews.

Leo was preceded in death by his parents; foster parents, Tillie and Bucky Harris; great-grandchild, Joseph Patrick Krinhop; brother, Eugene Stealy and sister, Charlotte Treptow.
