HULDA ANNA OLSON

Hulda Olson, 87, of Ventura, died Thursday, April 30, 1998 at North Iowa Mercy Health Center, East Campus, Mason City.

Funeral services were held Monday, May 4, at St. John’s Lutheran Church, rural Garner, Iowa, with the Rev. Carl Hedberg officiating. Burial was in Memorial Park Cemetery, Mason City.

Hulda Anna Sophia Olson, the daughter of Louis A. and Lena A. (Woiwod) Grell, was born Sept. 23, 1910 on a farm east of Garner. She was baptized on Oct. 23, 1910 and confirmed on April 13, 1924 at St. John’s Lutheran Church. She attended the rural schools near Ventura and Ventura High School.

On June 16, 1937 she was married to Milo James Olson at St. John’s Lutheran Church. They made their home on a farm near Ventura. After her husband’s death, Hulda continued to live on the farm. She enjoyed gardening, quilting and visiting with her family and friends.

She was a member of St. John’s Lutheran Church and was a member of the St. John’s Ladies Aid, Ventura Garden Club and the Happy Birthday Club.

She is survived by her daughter, LeAnna Mae Marohn of Colorado Springs, Colo.; her son, Robert Olson and his wife, Rosalie, Ventura; five grandchildren, Melanee Gardino, Melissa Marohn, Melinda Marohn, Kevin Olson and wife, Vicky, of Clear Lake, and Mark Olson of West Des Moines; and two great-grandchildren, Holly and Megan Gardino.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Milo, on May 20, 1960; her parents, Lena Grell, on Nov. 19, 1977, and Louis Grell, on July 22, 1983 and two brothers, Reuben Grell and Raymond Grell.

Music was provided by organist, Mrs. Louise Boehnke who accompanied soloist, John Arthur, and congregational hymns. Ushers were Mark Boehnke and Daniel Sobek.

Honorary pallbearers were Laurice Woiwod, Ron Woiwod, Ernie Woiwod, Carrol Boehnke, Arno Olson and Sherwood Pitkin.

Pallbearers were Gary Hahn, Charles Bohn, Neal Woiwod, Bill Olson, Jim Pitken and Jerry Ouverson.
