Obituary - Viola Helen (Tuma) Sheehy
May 25, 1917 ~ September 17, 2012

Viola Helen Sheehy, age 95, passed peacefully into the hands of the Lord at the Heritage Care Center in Mason City, Iowa on September 17, 2012.

A funeral service will be held for Viola at 11:00 a.m. on Friday (September 21, 2012) at Hogan-Bremer-Moore Colonial Chapel, 126 3rd St. N.E., Mason City, with the Rev. John A. Gossman officiating. Interment will follow in the Elmwood-St. Joseph Cemetery in Mason City.

Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service at Hogan-Bremer-Moore Colonial Chapel on Friday.

Viola Sheehy was born May 25, 1917 near Calmar, Iowa, the only child of Joseph and Mary Korbel Tuma. She was raised on a farm in rural Calmar Township, Winnishiek County. She attended school in Spillville while living with her great-grandmother, Catherine Bruha Taylor. She also attended schools in Decorah before moving to Mason City to attend Hamilton College. While in Mason City she met Ted M. Sheehy, they were eventually married on October 13, 1941 at St. Wenceslaus Catholic Church in Spillville, Iowa. Five children were born of this marriage.

She is survived by her children, Mary (Wayne) Casper, Mike (Ann) Sheehy, Rich Sheehy, and Martie (Steve) Sawyer, nine grandchildren and thirteen great grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Joe Tuma in 1957, Mary Korbel Tuma in 1997, her husband, Theodore Maurice in 1983, and her son, Joseph Stephen in 1993.

The family wishes to extend their most sincere appreciation for the loving care provided by the staff at Heritage Care Center.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that any donations be addressed or sent to the Czech Heritage Center, P.O. Box 186, Protivin, Iowa, 52163, an IRS approved 501 (3) Not-for-Profit Iowa Corporation, or to a charity of the donor's choice.
