Obituary - Maurice Stephen "Maurie" "Stavros" Sheehy
July 06, 1959 ~ September 04, 2003

MASON CITY — Maurice Stephen "Stavros" Sheehy, 44, of 2 S. Pierce Ave., Mason City, died following a lengthy illness Friday morning (Sept. 5, 2003) at Mercy Medical Center of North Iowa in Mason City.

Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Tuesday at the Holy Transfiguration Greek Orthodox Church, 1311 2nd St. S.W., Mason City, with the Rev. Joseph Mirowski officiating the celebration of Maurice's life. Interment will follow in Elmwood-St. Joseph Cemetery.

The family will greet friends from 4 to 6 p.m. today at the church. The Trisagion prayer service will begin at 6 p.m.

Fullerton Funeral Home, 123 2nd St. S.E. is in charge of arrangements.

Those wishing to extend memorials or an expression of sympathy may direct them at the family's request to the Maurice Sheehy Memorial Fund.

Maurice Stephen "Stavros" Sheehy was born July 6, 1959, in Mason City, to James and Esther (Reres) Sheehy. He was one of four children.

Maurice attended and graduated from Mason City High School in 1977. He furthered his education when he attended and graduated from North Iowa Area Community College in Mason City.

Maurice honorably dedicated himself to his country having served in the U.S. Army National Guard.

Important to Maurice was his devotion of his faith at the Holy Transfiguration Greek Orthodox church of which he was an active participant.

Maurice's leisure activities and interest included Tae-Kwon-Do at the North Iowa Martial Arts Academy, where he achieved the level of brown belt.

Maurie, as he was affectionately known by his family and friends, also enjoyed the outdoor recreation of hunting and fishing. He was an avid fan of the Minnesota Vikings and University of Iowa Hawkeyes.

Grateful for having had the privilege of sharing Maurie's life are his daughter, Kascey Laine Sheehy and his mother, Esther Sheehy, both of Mason City; a sister, Dilo Etter and her husband, Randy, of Denver, Colo.; two brothers, John Sheehy and his wife, Teri, of Mason City, and Tom Sheehy and his wife, Deb, of Waukee; three nephews; three nieces; two great-nieces; his godmother, Kondilo Johnson; Maurie was godfather of Amy Sheehy and Ryan Piper. He is survived by his former wife Dianne Hall. Maurie will be sadly missed and fondly remembered by several aunts, uncles, cousins, as well as other family and friends.

He was preceded in death by his father, James R. Sheehy; maternal and paternal grandparents; aunts; uncles; and his godfather, David Johnson.
