Obituary - Domini V. (Haynes) Pauley
December 20, 1918 ~ November 20, 2006

MASON CITY — Domini V. Pauley, 87, of 2060 S. Kentucky Ave., Apt. #410, Mason City, passed away Monday (Nov. 20, 2006) at the Muse Norris Hospice Inpatient Unit in Mason City.

Memorial services will be 11 a.m. Friday, Nov. 24, 2006, at the First Christian Church, 318 N. Adams Ave., with Pastor Charles Aurand officiating. Inurnment will be held in Elmwood-St. Joseph’s Cemetery.

There will be a gathering of friends and family one hour prior to the service at the church. Memorials may be given to Hospice of North Iowa or to the Domini V. Pauley Memorial Fund.

Domini was born in Houston, Texas, on Dec. 20, 1918, to Stanley L. and Lavinia Peeden Haynes. She attended school in Mason City and graduated from Mason City High School in 1936. She attended Mason City Junior College in 1936-1937 and transferred to Grinnell College where she graduated with a Bachelor of Arts in speech in 1940.

After graduation, she went to work at Banker’s Life Company and WHO radio in Des Moines. She then traveled to Glendale, Calif., where she worked for Sound Equipment Corporation until 1945 when she returned to Mason City.

After her return to Mason City, she met her future husband, John Pauley, and they were married on Jan. 15, 1947, at the home of her parents.

Domini was active in the Maria Mitchell Club, P.E.O., Red Cross, and her church while she was married.

She loved to work on all types of word puzzles, jigsaw puzzles and was an avid reader during her life. She also enjoyed her Mah Jongg friends and talking about politics and life with her friends and family.

She and John divided their time between Mason City and Naples, Fla., during their retirement years. Recently, she resided at Kentucky Ridge Assisted Living of Mason City.

She is survived by her children, John “Jack” E. Pauley Jr., of Lake Oswego, Ore., Tom (Ava) Pauley, of Forest City, and Tris (John) Hasapopoulos, of White Bear Lake, Minn. She also leaves behind her beloved grandchildren, Seth (Samantha) Pauley, of Wilmington, Del., Greta Pauley, of New York City, N.Y., Gracie Pauley, of Lake Oswego, Ore., Will (Heidi) Hasapopoulos, of Alexandria, Minn., Kit Hasapopoulos of White Bear Lake, Minn., Callie Hasapopoulos, of White Bear Lake, Minn. and Jameson Pauley, of Forest City. She is survived by her brother, Stanley (Alice) Haynes, of Mason City, and many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her husband of 59 years, John, in July of 2006; her parents, Stanley L. and Vinnie Haynes; and her brother, William (Catherine) Haynes.
