Funeral services for Charles E. Geist, 87, who died at his home, 413 South Shore Drive, early Monday morning, April 10, were held Wednesday, April 12th, at 2 o’clock at the Wilcox Funeral Chapel. Doctor Edward W. Day, pastor of the Congregational Church conducted the rites and interment was in the Clear Lake Cemetery.

Mr. Geist was born in Plainfield Township near Joliet, Ill., August 16, 1862. In 1887 he came to this vicinity of Clear Lake and engaged in farming. November 15, 1888, he was married to Miss Mary Louise Johnston.

It was in 1915 when they retired and moved to the present home. They had no children. Mrs. Geist died July 2, 1948, a few months before their 60th wedding anniversary.

Mr. Geist was also preceded in death by a twin brother, E.N. Geist, Joliet, Ill., who died in January 1949, another brother, William S. Geist, Rockwell City, who died September 8, 1940, and a sister who died many years ago.

He is survived by 2 brothers, Ervin T. Geist, Joliet, Ill., and Henry Geist, Adair, and a sister, Miss Mary Geist, Joliet, Ill.

Mr. Geist was a member of the Masonic order and a life-long member of the Congregational Church. Civic, social and community affairs were always actively participated in by both Mr. and Mrs. Geist as long as they were able to do so.

Pallbearers were Robert Williams, H.G. Schumacher, Clayton Hart, Fred Martin, R.R. Rogers and Homer Briar. Obsequial selections were played during the services. The flowers were arranged by Mmes. C.A. Knutson, C.F. Crane and W.H. Bishop. Ervin T. Geist, Joliet, Ill., and nephews and nieces from Rockwell City, Iowa attended the services.

NOTE – Charles E. Geist was born August 16, 1862, died April 10, 1950 and was buried in the Clear Lake Cemetery Section 1 Row 3.
