Lee C. Mensch, 84, of 302 2nd NE, died Saturday evening at a Mason City nursing home. He was a retired machinist for the Rock Island Railroad.
Born Dec. 23, 1888 at Whiteside, Ill., he was the son of Clarence H. and Lizzie Petty Mensch. He started work at Lehigh Portland Cement Co. in Mason City. In 1917 he moved to Rock Island, Ill. where he worked at the Rock Island Arsenal. He was married to Ethel L. Kellogg on Oct. 30, 1918 in Mason City. They lived in Rock Island until 1922 when they moved to Manly. He worked there for 31 years as a machinist for the Rock Island Railroad, retiring in 1963. In 1970, they moved to Mason City where he had lived since.
He is survived by his wife; a son, Merle L., Davenport; a daughter, Mrs. R. D. (Arvilla) Michalek, Sacrament, Calif.; seven grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; a sister, Mrs. Paul (Kathryn) Barclay, Mason City; and a brother, Glenn, Mason City.
He was preceded in death by two sisters and a brother.
He was a member of Bethel United Methodist Church, Manly.
Funeral services will be at 1:30 p.m. Wednesday at the Major Memorial Chapel with the Rev. Paul F. McKinley, pastor of the Bethel United Methodist Church, officiating. Burial will be in Elmwood Cemetery.
Friends may call from 11 a.m. Tuesday until the time of services at the Major Erickson Funeral Home.
