January 20, 1923 ~ July 24, 2009MASON CITY — Ruth Ann McGowan, 86, of 302 2nd Street Northeast, Mason City, died Friday, July 24, 2009 at the Good Shepard Health Center.
A Funeral Mass will be held at 10:30 A.M., Saturday, August 1, 2009 at Holy Family Catholic Church, 714 North Adams, Mason City with Reverend Michael Schuller officiating. Burial will be held at Memorial Park Cemetery, Mason City.
Visitation will be held from 5-7 P.M., Friday, July 31, 2009 at Hogan Bremer Moore Colonial Chapel, 126 3rd Street Northeast, Mason City, with a rosary and scriptural wake service held at 7:00 P.M.
Memorials may be directed to Holy Family Catholic Church, in memory of Ruth.
Ruth was born January 20, 1923, in Mason City, the daughter of Claude and Bridget (Duffy) Evans. She graduated from Holy Family Catholic High School. Ruth married James McGowan Sr. on October 14, 1944 in Mason City and to this union 4 children were born.
For most of her life Ruth was a homemaker, taking care of her children and home. She also worked for a short time as an office manager for John Deere, and a sales clerk at Lundberg’s Clothing. Ruth was also very active in the church, and was a lifetime member of Holy Family Catholic Church, and a former president of the church guild.
In her spare time Ruth enjoyed playing cards, and visiting with friends. She loved her family and spending time with them. Ruth also took care of her own mother for many years.
She is survived by her children, Mary “Mickey” (Craig) Jensen, Clear Lake, Nancy Woods, Des Moines, Jim McGowan and Kelly, Mason City, and Margy (Bill) Kasik, Des Moines, her grandchildren Michele (Todd) Schatzberg and their children Connor and Maxwell, Lisa Jensen, Sara (Bill) Van Horn and their children Wylie, Allisa and Sophie, Jennifer (Matthew) Barrett and their daughter Kaitlyn, Deidre (Ryan) Ackelson and their son Will, Sean McGowan, Katie McGowan, Bridget Kasik, Kellie (Brady) Gries and their daughter Ellery, and Ruth’s sister MaryEtta Rees, Mesa, AZ, along with numerous nieces and nephews.
Ruth was preceded in death by her parents, husband, and siblings Morris Evans, Robert Evans, Ellen (Toddy) Huber, Reverend Paul Evans, Loren Evans and John Evans.
