Obituary - Lloyd D. Loers
July 15, 1920 ~ November 27, 2009

Lloyd D. Loers, 89, of 1709 S. Shore Dr., Clear Lake, Iowa died Friday Nov. 27, 2009 at Mercy Medical Center North Iowa, Mason City, Iowa.

Memorial services will be 11:00a.m. Saturday Dec. 5, 2009 at the Ward-Van Slyke Colonial Chapel, Clear Lake, Iowa. Visitation will be one hour before the service. Family suggests memorials to Hospice of North Iowa.

Lloyd was born July 15, 1920 in May City, Iowa the son of Harry and Edith (Snyder) Loers. He graduated from Hartley High School, Hartley, Iowa in 1937.

After high school he went to work as a radio announcer for KICD in Spencer, Iowa. He then transferred to KYUM in Yuma, Arizona and worked as a radio announcer there.

Patty went to Yuma where she and Lloyd were married March 15, 1942. He worked his way up to salesman while working in Yuma. While in Yuma, his boss took him to a Toastmasters meeting. Lloyd was so impressed that when he came back to Mason City he started a Toastmasters International chapter. When they moved to Mason City, he worked as a salesman for KGLO radio and television. He eventually became General Manager of both the radio and television stations. Lloyd worked his way up and became Vice President of Lee Enterprises Broadcasting Division. He transferred to Honolulu, Hawaii, where he was the manager of KGMB, a television station. He retired in 1980. He and Patty lived between Hawaii and Clear Lake, until health made it too difficult for them to travel.

Lloyd was on the Board of the Mason City Airport Commission and a member and past President of the Mason City Chamber of Commerce. He was also an Elder at the Presbyterian Church. He enjoyed duck hunting, fishing, playing cards and spending time with his family.

Lloyd is survived by his wife Patricia Loers, Clear Lake; two children Stephen (Penny) Loers, Clear Lake and Ann ( Dr. Richard) Spiegel, Yakima, Washington; five grandchildren Cassie (Jeff) Bartholomew, Mason City, Kory (Kelli) Loers, Waterloo, Chris Loers, Mason City, Christopher Spiegel, Seattle, Washington and Kevin Spiegel, Boise, Idaho; five great-grandchildren Jennifer Galkin, Kaden Loers, Austin Loers, Stephen Loers and Chase Loers; one brother Howard (Jo) Loers, Mesa, Arizona and one sister Marilyn King, Kansas City, Missouri. He was preceded in death by his parents, sister Maureen Loers and a son Doug Loers.
