AGED RESIDENT DIES IN HOSPITAL
RITES MONDAY AT 2 FOR MRS. W.B. SCROGGINS

CLEAR LAKE – Funeral services for Mrs. W.B. Scroggins, 84, who died at a Mason City hospital about 6 o’clock Friday evening following the fracture of her hip April 28, will be held at Ward’s Funeral Home Monday at 2 o’clock. The Rev. Warner M. Hubbard, pastor of the Methodist Church, will conduct the rites and burial will be in Clear Lake Cemetery.

Mrs. Scroggins was born Flora Charter, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. R.H. Charter, of English descent, on a farm in Kankakee County, Illinois, April 22, 1864. She grew to womanhood in that locality and was married there to W.B. Scroggins Nov. 6, 1883.

They lived on the Scroggins homestead near Essex a few years and then went into business at Essex and Kankakee. They later moved to a farm near Ringsted, Iowa, where they lived until coming to Clear Lake in 1915.

Mrs. Scroggins was a lifelong member of the Methodist Church and of the W.C.T.U.

She was preceded in death by Mr. Scroggins who died Jan. 14, 1939, and an only daughter, Mrs. Edith Johnston, who died Jan. 15, 1920

Surviving are 2 brothers, Curtis L. Charter, Richmond, Cal., and Nelson H. Charter, Los Angeles, Cal.; a granddaughter, Mrs. Harold Aitchison, 100 S. Oak Street, Clear Lake, an adopted grandson, Mervyl A. Johnston, Kankakee, Ill., and a number of nephews and nieces.

NOTE – Flora Scroggins was born April 22, 1864, died May 14, 1948 and was buried in the Clear Lake Cemetery Section A Row 13.
