Obituary - Elizabeth A. "Betty" (Frye) Hawkins
March 13, 1903 ~ March 10, 1996

MASON CITY - Elizabeth A. "Betty" Hawkins, 92, of 1000 N. Eisenhower Ave., died Sunday (March 10, 1996) at the Americana Health Care Center.

A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Friday at St. John's Episcopal Church, 120 First St. N.E., with Warren Frelund, deacon, officiating.

There is no visitation; the body will be cremated. Major Erickson Funeral Home, 111 N. Pennsylvania Ave., is in charge of arrangements.

Memorials may be given to the Betty Hawkins Memorial Fund.

Betty Hawkins was born March 13, 1903 in Princeville, Ill., the daughter of Peter and Margaret (Graham) Frye. At the age of 9 years, Betty moved to Kensett, where she later graduated from Kensett High School.

In 1926, she moved to Mason City. She was united in marriage on March 13, 1926, to Leslie G. Hawkins.

Betty graduated from Hamilton Business College and worked for a short time for Shepard Abstract Company.

Betty was an active member of St. John's Episcopal Church, Eastern Star, League of Women Voters, Minerva Club and was involved in Girl Scouts.

Survivors include her daughter, Beverly Kitto and her husband, R.W., of Hawthorne, Calif.; son, Thomas E. Hawkins and his wife, Darlene, of Cleveland, Ohio; daughter, Margaret Hillard and husband, Donald, of Des Moines; five grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Leslie, in 1986; and brother, Giles Frye.
