CLARENCE VAN HORN 1886 – 1898
There died at the home of his parents, Mr. and Mrs. James Billings, Union township, on the evening of the 29th, Clarence Van Horn, aged 12 years, 6 months and 2 days.
Clarence was the third son of Chandler and Louisa Van Horn, and was born in Lake township. The father’s death occurred about nine years ago.
Clarence’s death was sudden and unexpected. He had that evening milked three cows and had gone out with a younger brother about 7 o’clock with milk to feed the calves and, while they were drinking, without a word or groan he fell, and before his mother, who was notified, could carry him to the house, he breathed his last. Clarence was very mild and affectionate in his disposition, and the pet of his school fellows, who deeply feel his loss.
His funeral was held on Monday at the Lakeside Congregational church, Rev. R. R. Wood, officiating. The house was crowded with sympathizing neighbors who condole with the afflicted parents in their loss.
