ROBERT M. KUHN
CLEAR LAKE - Robert M. Kuhn, 94, of 210 W. 10th Ave. N., died Wednesday (May 28, 1997) at North Iowa Mercy Health Center East, Mason City.
Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday at the Church of Christ, Fertile, with the Rev. Dennis Ganz officiating. Interment will be in Clear Lake Cemetery.
Visitation will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. today at Ward-Van Slyke Colonial Chapel, 101 N. Fourth St., Clear Lake. The family suggests memorials may be made to the Church of Christ, Fertile.
Robert was born Feb. 1, 1903, in Kewanna, Ind., the son of William H. and Savanah (Goodner) Kuhn. He attended school in Indiana. He worked road construction in the Fertile, North Central Iowa and Southern Minnesota areas.
In September of 1924, he was united in marriage to Ora C. Calhoun in Hartland, Minn. The couple farmed in the Fertile area for a few years until the Depression hit.
Robert was later employed by AT&T for three years. He returned to farming in Illinois and worked for John Deere Co. from 1937-45 in Moline, Ill. He returned to the Fertile area and farmed until 1964. In 1962, Robert sold 80 acres of his property which is now known as Kuhn's Wildlife Area.
He moved to Clear Lake in 1965 and continued to work seasonably in farming. For 10 years, Robert was involved with the Clear Lake Senior Citizens Center. He was an avid bowler who won the state senior citizen bowling tournament for his age group in singles and doubles. He was inducted into the Clear Lake Bowlers Hall of Fame.
He was a member of the IOOF Lodge in Clear Lake and served as a 4-H leader for the Grant Livewires, located in Grant Township, for nine years. He served on the county 4-H committee for three years. He was also a member of the Church of Christ in Fertile.
He is survived by a son, David Clark and his wife, Linda, of Mason City; one daughter, Mrs. Art (Lois) LeBahn, of Owensboro, Ky.; a brother, Andrew Kuhn of Kewanna, Ind.; seven grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife on Dec. 18, 1955; a son, Chester in 1987; two brothers; and five sisters.
