ROBERT DEAN BONNER

CLEAR LAKE - Robert Dean Bonner, 57, of 625 10th Ave N., Clear Lake, died Saturday (Nov. 16, 1996) at his home.

Funeral services will be held at 1:30 p.m. Wednesday at the Ventura United Methodist Church, with the Rev. David Gobeli officiating. Interment will be in the Ventura Cemetery.

Visitation will begin after 4 p.m. today at the Ward-Van Slyke Colonial Chapel, 101 N. Fourth St., Clear Lake. The family suggests memorials to the Robert Dean Bonner memorial fund.

Robert was born June 8, 1939 in Swaledale, Iowa, the son of John Gene and Amanda Flo (Odom) Bonner. He graduated from Clear Lake High School in 1957. Robert was baptized at the Zion Lutheran Church, Clear Lake, in 1939.

Robert married Deanna Kaster on Nov. 11, 1962 at the E.U.B. Church, Ventura, Iowa.

He started working for David Manufacturing Co., in Mason City, as a machinist in 1966. While he worked at DMC, he was active in the local and district machinist union (I.M.A.) and was local and district union secretary and later president of local and district union. He helped organize the union at Andrew's Prestress Concrete. Robert helped develop the safety program at DMC.

In 1972, he became involved as a Webolo's leader for the Boy Scouts of America and later a scout leader. Robert was honored by his fellow scouts and was elected in the Order of The Arrow, established by the National Brotherhood of Scout Honor Campers, Sac-N-Fox Lodge. He did maintenance work and skate sharpening at the North Iowa Ice Arena, where he enjoyed being around kids and helping them.

Robert enjoyed fishing, camping, trips to Northern Minn., working on cars and most of all dancing. Together with his wife, he was a caretaker of the Ventura Cemetery. He was a member of Ventura United Methodist Church, Ventura.

Robert is survived by his wife, Deanna Bonner, of Clear Lake; his mother, Amanda (Flo) Bonner, of Clear Lake; six children, Robert Eugene Bonner, of Hayfield, Iowa; Anthony Joseph Bonner, and his wife, Dawn, of Rockford; Chad Allen Bonner, of Clear Lake; Angela Ranae` Meyering and her husband, Phil, Ventura; James Bonner and his wife, Melissa, Ardmore, Okla.; and Barbara Wells; and her husband, Steve, Madill, Okla.; one sister, Mrs. Betty Arnold and her husband, Jerry, of Clear Lake, Iowa; 10 grandchildren, Joshua Dean Meyering, Jacob Wayne Bonner, Jeremy Bonner, Jarred Bonner, Jesse Wells, Levi Wells, Elizabeth Wells, John Wells, Amanda Wells, and Amy Wells; as well as many nieces, nephews, and a host of friends.

Robert was preceded in death by his father; grandfather, Harley Joy Bonner; grandparents, John and Belva Bonner; and Charles Rozella Odom.
