JOHN G. ALBERS

MASON CITY - John G. Albers, 81, of 804 S. Garfield Ave., died Wednesday (May 28, 1997) at Willow Creek Health Center.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Friday at Major Erickson Funeral Home, 111 N. Pennsylvania Ave., with the Rev. Ron Stein of the First Baptist Church officiating. Interment will be in Mount Vernon Township Cemetery, Burchinal.

Visitation will be held from 4 to 8 p.m. today at Major Erickson Funeral Home, and until time of services on Friday. Memorials may be given to the First Baptist Church in his memory.

John G. Albers was born June 27, 1915, in Swaledale, the son of Herman and Ida (Reidel) Albers. John received his education in Swaledale.

He married Edith Wernet on Oct. 17, 1940, in Thornton. John farmed in the Swaledale area for 34 years, moving to Mason City in 1974 and was a custodian at Good Shepherd Health Center for 12 years.

He was a past member of the Swaledale School Board, served as a committeeman for the A.S.C.S., was a Pleasant Valley Township Trustee and a member of the First Baptist Church.
John enjoyed hunting and fishing.

Survivors include his wife, Edith Albers of Mason City; one daughter, Karon Harmon and her husband, Howard, of Swaledale; two grandchildren, Brian Harmon and his wife, Holly, of Des Moines, and Roxanne Conroy and her husband, Jeff, of Swaledale; one great-grandson, Jonathan Conroy; one brother, Martin Albers of Woodburn, Ore.; and many nieces, nephews and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents, two sisters, three brothers and one son.
