Mrs. Madelon M. Mullan, 88, of Clear Lake, died Sunday, June 15, 1997 at North
Iowa Mercy Health Center East Campus, Mason City, Iowa.

Funeral services will be held today (Wednesday), June 18, at 10:30 a.m. at St.
Patrick's Catholic Church, Clear Lake, with the Msgr. Joseph J. Slepicka
officiating. Interment will be in Clear Lake Cemetery, Clear Lake. A scriptural
wake was held Tuesday, June 17 at the Ward-Van Slyke Colonial Chapel.

Madelon was born Oct. 16, 1908 in Sheffield, Iowa, the daughter of Ruben and
Maude (Ormrod) Esslinger. She graduated from Sheffield High School in 1926 and
then attended Hamilton Business College, Mason City.

Madelon worked at Harry Mason Ford Garage in Clear Lake, as a bookkeeper for two
years then joined her parents in operating the Lions Cafe in Clear Lake for two
years.

On June 23, 1931 she married Francis (Frank) Mullan at St. Joseph Catholic
Church, Mason City. She was the bookkeeper at Esslinger-Mullan Farm Implement
and helped her husband operate the business until 1955.

She enjoyed cooking, gardening, raising flowers, doing ceramics, playing 500,
traveling, watching the Lawrence Welk show, going north fishing, and the Clear
Lake Senior Citizens. She was a member of St. Patrick's Catholic Church, Clear
Lake.

She is survived by two sons, Don Mullan and his wife, Marcia, Bella Vista, Ark.,
and Terry Mullan and his wife, Nancy, Clear Lake; one sister-in-law, Kathryn
Mullan, Mason City; four grandchildren, Kevin Mullan, Denver, Colo., Scott
Mullan, San Francisco Calif., Mark Mullan, Tempe, Ariz., and Monty Mullan,
Brooklyn Park, Minn.; two step-children, Jason Dasch, Des Moines, Iowa, and
Brenda Dasch, Clear Lake; and three great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband in 1993; and one infant
sister.
