Anna "Ann" Ruth Stokes, 73, of 115 13th Ave. S., Clear Lake, Iowa, died
Friday, Sept. 29, 1995 at Muse Norris Hospice Inpatient Unit, Mason City,
Iowa.

Funeral services were held at 11 a.m. Monday, Oct. 2, 1995 at First
Congregational Church, 205 W. 10th Ave. S., Clear Lake, with the Rev. Charles
Williams officiating. Burial was in the Clear Lake Cemetery.

Visitation was held Sunday at Ward-Van Slyke Colonial Chapel, 101 4th St.
N., Clear Lake, and one hour prior to service time Monday at the church.

Pat Treloar was organist and Deloris Williams was soloist.

Pallbearers were Shane Stokes, Shelby Pierce, Tim Stokes, Charles G.
Thompson, Christian Stokes, Glenn Shropshire, and Gary Miller.

Anna Ruth Stokes was born Aug. 23, 1922 at Clear Lake, the daughter of
Earl Miller and Ida Miller (nee) Jahnke. She attended Clear Lake schools and
graduated from Clear Lake High School in 1940. She worked for a brief time in
Waterloo, Iowa then traveled to Milton, Fla. where she was married to Wayne
Stokes on June 24, 1943. While her husband served overseas in the U.S. Navy,
she lived with her sister-in-law in San Francisco, Calif. In 1945, when her
husband was discharged from the service, the couple moved to Clear Lake and
have resided there ever since.

She was a member of First Congregational Church where she served as
deaconess, served on various committees, and was known for her contribution in
making candy, mince meat and crafts for the church Christmas bazaars. She was
also a member of Lake Plungers Investment Club and enjoyed her birthday clubs
and coffee groups.

She loved to swim and in her younger days swam across Clear Lake. Her
greatest joys in life were her family, grandchildren and giving of her time
and gifts to others.

Survivors include her husband, Wayne Stokes of Clear Lake; a son, Gordon
Stokes and his wife, Gayle, of Clear Lake; two grandsons, Shane Stokes and his
wife, Teresa, of Iowa City, and Christian Stokes and his friend, Amy Hirt,
both of Riverside; a great-grandson, Hunter Stokes of Iowa City; a sister,
Gretchen Miller of Clear Lake; a sister-in-law, Viola Stokes of Clear Lake;
several nieces and nephews; and many, many friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents; one sister, Helen Miller; and
