Ellen Marie Steege, 88, of Clear Lake, died Sunday, May 25, 1997 at Oakwood Care
Center in Clear Lake.

Funeral services will be held today (Wednesday), May 28, at 1:30 p.m. at Zion
Lutheran Church, Clear Lake, with the Rev. Dean Hess and Rev. Kermit Roisen
officiating. Burial will be in Clear Lake Cemetery.

The family suggests memorials be made to Hospice of North Iowa or Zion Lutheran
Church.

Ellen was born on a farm Aug. 25, 1908 in rural Clear Lake, the daughter of Sam
and Johanna Kirstina (Madsen) Villadsen. She attended country school.

On Sept. 23, 1925 she was united in marriage with Glen H. Steege in Clear Lake.
The couple farmed in several locations around Clear Lake before moving into town
in 1942. Glen preceded her in death May 2, 1988.

Ellen worked as a clerk at the A&P Grocery Store and later at State Brand
Creamery. She retired in 1965. Her hobbies included crafts and hand work,
baking, cooking and traveling. She especially enjoyed spending time with her
family.

Her memberships at Zion Lutheran Church in Clear Lake was very important in her
life. She was an honorary member of Grace Circle at the church. She was also a
member of Danish Sisterhood.

As Ellen's health declined, she moved to Oakwood Care Center in Clear Lake.

She is survived by a son, Keith Steege and his wife, Bonnie, of Clear Lake; two
daughters, Alice Nielsen and her husband, Floyd, Clear Lake, and Joann Hokel and
her husband, Harold of Webster City, Iowa; a sister, Anna Freeman, Hammond,
Ind.; a sister-in-law, Lucille Villadsen, of Lake Station, Ind.; eight
grandchildren, Lonnie Brewington and her husband, Andrew, Barbara Bendetti and
her husband, Bob, Diana Steeg, Criag Nielsen, Nancy Whaley and her husband,
Mark, Karl Hokel and his wife, Vicki, Kyle Hokel and Kurt Hokel; six
great-grandchildren, Bobbi Frisby, Matthew Lamb, Ryan Whaley, Dane Whaley, Megan
Hokel, Tiffanee Hokel; and two great-grandchildren, Audrey and Troy Frisby.

She was preceded in death by her husband; parents; a sister, Hazel Friest; and
five brothers, Gunner, Nels, Gordon, Hans and Art Villadsen.
