Marilyn Margaret Golien, 52, Clear Lake, Iowa, died Wednesday, Dec. 3, 1997 at
her home.

Funeral services were held Saturday, Dec. 6, 1997 at 11 a.m. at the United
Methodist Church, Clear Lake, Iowa with the Rev. Fred Lewis officiating.
Interment was in the Clear Lake Cemetery, Clear Lake, Iowa.

The Ward-Van Slyke Colonial Chapel, Clear Lake, was in charge. The family
suggests memorials to the Marilyn Margaret Golien Memorial Fund.

Marilyn was born July 22, 1945 in Waverly, Iowa the daughter of Howard and
Gertrude (Schoentag) Parmely. She graduated from Lamont High School in 1963,
and then attended Mason City Junior College and Buena Vista College.

On June 18, 1966 she was united in marriage to Leslie Golien at the United
Methodist Church in Lamont, Iowa. The couple lived in Marshalltown, Iowa for
six months before moving to Muscatine, Iowa in 1967, where Marilyn worked for
the Bandad Corp. as a bookkeeper. They moved to Clear Lake in 1970.

In 1980, Marilyn started an upholstery business out of her house and made
artistic pillows for people. In 1985, she was employed by Quality Quick Print
and Simmering-Cory. She was the bookkeeper, and later manager, of Milepost 194
Truck Stop. She later worked at Neal Cleaners and Hewitt Wholesale.

Marilyn enjoyed gardening, interior decorating, flower arranging and shopping.
One of her favorite hangouts was The Hobby Lobby. She especially loved being
with her family and having coffee with friends.

She is survived by her husband, Leslie Golien, Clear Lake; a daughter,
Michaela Cookman and her husband, Todd, and their two children, Colton and
Tanner, Clear Lake; a son, Christopher Golien, Clear Lake, and his special
friend, Lisa Johnson, of Cincinnati, Ohio; four sisters, Claudia Morris and
her husband, Elgin, of Clear Lake, Carolyn Streicher and her husband, Larr,y
of Arlington, Iowa, Joan Wilker and her husband, Jim, of Garnavillo, Iowa, and
Debra Sizer and her husband, Jeff, of Ft. Collins, Colo.; a brother, John
Parmely and his wife, Betty, of Dundee, Iowa; a sister-in-law, Connie Roloff
and her husband, John, of Marietta, Ga; nieces and nephews; and great-nieces
and great-nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; in-laws Maybelle and Lester Golien;
and an infant son, Robert Golien.
