Barbara B. Ransom, 71, of Clear Lake, Iowa, died Tuesday, Aug. 12, 1997, at the
Muse-Norris Hospice Inpatient Unit, Mason City, Iowa.

There was no visitation. Her body was cremated.

Memorial services were held Saturday, Aug. 16, at the Clear Lake United
Methodist Church, with the Rev. Fred. Lewis officiating. Ward-Van Slyke Colonial
Chapel, Clear Lake, was in charge of services. The family suggests memorials to
the Barbara B. Ransom Memorial Fund.

Barbara Beatrice Ransom was born Jan. 28, 1926, at Gary, Ind., the daughter of
Robert and Sally (Burdick) Burton. She received her education in Mason City
schools.

On Aug. 27, 1947, she married James A. Ransom at Clear Lake.

Barbara loved her family, her church, and her many friends in the community. For
the past 13 years, she volunteered her help at the Methodist Church, and for
many years, helped at the Oakwood Care Center, where her mother resides. Barbara
enjoyed her bridge and 500 clubs, was a member of the Clear Lake VFW Auxiliary,
and was also a member of the Clear Lake Library Board. She was a wonderful
person and will be missed, but forever remembered by her family and friends.

She is survived by her husband, James Ransom, Clear Lake; her mother, Sally
Burdick, Clear Lake; one daughter, Sue Harris, Scottsdale, Ariz.; one son,
Michael Ransom and his wife, Jeanine, and their son, Benjamin, Rochester, Minn.;
one sister, Bonnie Forzano and her husband, Dick, East Liverpool, Ohio;
step-sister, Marilyn Klahn and her husband, Richard, Marquette, Mich.; and many
nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her father, Robert; and one grandson, Tyler.

Organist Mary Jane Reynolds accompanied soloist Marilyn Sadler.

Honorary pallbearers were Bud Heitland, Donna Heitland, Les Heitland, Alberta
Heitland, Ken Thomsen, Ann Thomsen, Ed Callanan, Pauline Callanan, Arthur Juhl,
Ruth Juhl, Joe Lambert, Eugene King, Duane Kuhlers, LaVern Miller, James Buck,
Joe Buck, and Robert Bortle.
