Lillian Irene Nichols, 81, of Clear Lake, Iowa died Wednesday, Oct. 5, 1994 at
the I.O.O.F. Care Center, Mason City, Iowa following a five-year battle with
multiple myeloma.

Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Monday, Oct. 10, at the First Congregational
Church in Clear Lake. Pastor Charles Williams will officiate. Burial will be
in the Clear Lake Cemetery.

Visitation begins at 4 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 9, at the Ward-Van Slyke Colonial
Chapel, 101 N. 4th St., Clear Lake. In lieu of flowers, the family suggeeests
memorials to be made to Hospice of North Iowa or to the First Congregational
Church.

Irene Nichols was born Sept. 17, 1913 in Union Township, the daughter of Harry
Spilman and Ada (nee) Crozier Spilman. She graduated from Clear Lake High
School in 1930. She attended Santa Ana Junior College, Santa Ana, Calif., for
one year, then taught at Union No. 2 School for two years.

On Aug. 5, 1933 she married Robert L. Nichols at the home of her parents. The
couple lived their entire lives in Clear Lake.

Irene was a member of the First Congregational Church, P.E.O. and Progress
Club. She was very active in her church. She taught Sunday School, was a
member of the Womens Fellowship, serving both as treasurer and president, and
contributed many hours to the annual Holiday Festival. She also served as
delegate to the National Association of Christian Congregational Churches. She
enjoyed playing bridge, reading and needlework.

She is survived by one son, Lester Dale and his wife Joyce, Bay Village, Ohio;
one daughter, Judy Irene Lund and her husband Neilan, Minneapolis, Minn.; one
sister, Luceal Scott and her husband Roy, Clear Lake; three grandchildren,
Kathryn Beabout and her husband Dan of Bloomfield Hills, Mich., Joanne Grace
and her husband Joe, Bay Village, Ohio, and Rebecca Christel and her husband
Tom of Lake Bluff, Ill.; and five great-grandchildren, Matthew, Laura and
Katie Beabout, and Kristen and Joey Grace.

Irene was preceded in death by her parents and her husband.

At the funeral service, Sue Roenfanz was organist and Larry Shaffer provided
the music.

Honorary pallbearers were her grandchildren. Pallbearers were Michael Nichols,
John Perkins, Shelby Pierce, Roy Scott, Wayne Stokes, Glenn Westover and Jim
Ransom.
