Norma Marjorie Benner, 79, of Clear Lake, Iowa, died Wednesday, March 5, 1997,
at the Oakwood Care Center in Clear Lake.

Funeral services were held Saturday, March 8 at the Clear Lake United Methodist
Church, Clear Lake, with the Rev. Fred Lewis officiating. Interment was in the
Clear Lake Cemetery, Clear Lake. Ward-Van Slyke Colonial Chapel was in charge of
services. The family requests memorial contributions be made to the United Methodist
Church in Clear Lake in her memory.

Norma Marjorie Benner was born on Nov. 13, 1917, in Marble Rock, Iowa, the
daughter of Alton Martin and Maude Beatrice (Davis) Preston. She attended and
received her education in the Marble Rock Schools graduating from Marble Rock
High School in 1935. After completing her education she began working in the
print room for State Brand Creamery in Mason City, Iowa, in 1937. She was united
in marriage to Rodney Duane Benner on Oct. 16, 1938 in Princeton, Mo. After
their marriage they lived in Mason City, Ventura and in October 1952, they moved
to Clear Lake where she cleaned cottages in Clear Lake for several years.

She enjoyed traveling, country music, cooking, watching Soap Operas on T.V., and
reading, but her great love and enjoyment was her family and grandchildren.
Norma was a member of the United Methodist Church in Clear Lake and the VFW
Ladies Auxiliary Post #1658 in Clear Lake.

She is survived by her husband, Rodney Benner of Clear Lake; three daughters,
Norma Jean Benner of Iowa City, Iowa, Nancy Lee Hicks, of Ft. Meyers, Fla., and
Carol Marie Hayes, Orlando, Fla.; one son, James Duane Benner of the Oakwood
Care Center in Clear Lake; five grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; one
sister, Lanora Schultz of Marble Rock, as well as other relatives and friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents; one grandson, Eddie Wendall Hahn; two
brothers, Ralph and Marvin Preston; and one sister, Audrey Billette.

Honorary pallbearers were Bill Brower and Leo Lallier. Pallbearers were Roy
Schumacher, Ron Springer, Walt Gorman, William (Sparky) Sparks, Ernie Woiwood,
Darrell Avery.
