Mrs. Carl Bitker, 90, Dies at Clear Lake Home Monday

Aged Resident Was Native of Germany; 7 Children Survive

CLEAR LAKE - Mrs. Carl Bitker, 90, died at her home, 316 Clara street, early Monday morning of the frailties of age. Mrs. Bitker had been seriously ill only a couple of days although she was in frail health several years. The funeral has been set tentatively for Thursday afternoon pending word from distant relatives. The body is at Ward's funeral home.

As Margaret Hines, Mrs. Bitker was born in Holstein, in Kiel, Germany, May 26, 1853. She was married to Mr. Bitker in Kiel, Germany in March, 1880, and when 30 years of age came to America with her husband and 5 children. They lived first at Sabula, where 5 more children were born, moving to Clear Lake in 1900. Mr. Bitker died here March 23, 1930, a few days before their golden wedding anniversary.

Mrs. Bitker is survived by 7 children; Mrs. Robert Hanna and August Bitker, Clear Lake; Mrs. John Nagel, Sabula; Mrs. Marion C. Lund, Savanna, Ill.; Chris Bitker, Ada, Minn.; and John Bitker, Hanlontown; 40 grandchildren, 40 great-grandchildren, and 5 great-great-grandchildren.

Besides her husband and all her brother and sisters, Mrs. Bitker was preceded in death by 3 children, Charles, Emma and an infant, and a granddaughter, Elizabeth Bitker, whom the Bitkers reared in their home.

Mrs. Bitker was a member of the Methodist church and of the Linger Longer club. She was especially interested in foreign missionary work. Although her eyesight had failed in the last few years, she was alert in mind and took a keen interest in current events. Her 90th birthday last May was fittingly observed.
