Shelby Warren Pierce, 95, of Clear Lake died Saturday, Jan. 2, 2010 at his home.
According to Shelby's wishes, he was cremated and a memorial service will be
held Saturday, 11 a.m. Aug. 28, 2010 at the First Congregational Church, 205 W.
10th Ave N., Clear Lake with Rev. Michael Nash officiating. Inurnment will be at
the Clear Lake Cemetery at a later time.

Shelby was born on a farm northwest of Ventura, Iowa, November 25, 1914 to Ora
J. and Bertha Pierce. In 1917 the family moved to a farm in Paynesville,
Minnesota, living there until 1929, and moving back to Mason City where Shelby
attended grade and high school. After school he began working with O.T. Balmat
Company, then later worked 7 campaigns with the Sugar Beet Co. In 1933 he and
his parents moved out to East Main, Clear Lake. In 1935 he started working for
Moffett and Thompson Garage. On September 17, 1938, he married Opal B. Hanson
Christensen. Later on he was employed by Floyd and Leonard in Mason City and
Debruyn and Pugh Implement in Clear Lake. In 1948 Shelby built his own garage on
8th Avenue North. He was in business for 20 years. In 1968 he worked for Beck
Excavating Company and retired in 1977.

Shelby enjoyed traveling, fishing and hunting. He liked fixing things for people
and working at the church. He was a member of the First Congregational Church,
IOOF Lodge 187 and has held offices in both. He served on the city council from
1980-84.

Shelby is survived by his wife Opal at the IOOF Home, daughters Nancy and her
husband James Hoffman, Kenniwick, Washington, and Conny and her husband Jim
Redway, Bella Vista, Arkansas, five grandchildren, and 10 great grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, four brothers Phil, Ed, Bill and Ora,
a grandson Scott and granddaughter Eve Ann.
