Ralph S. Volk, 85, of Clear Lake, died Wednesday, Dec. 30, 2009 at the Muse
Norris Hospice Inpatient Unit, Mason City, Iowa.

A funeral service was held Saturday, Jan. 2, at Ward Van Slyke Colonial
Chapel, Clear Lake, with Pastor Dianna Hoover officiating. A private family
inurnment took place Monday, Jan. 4, at the Clear Lake Cemetery. Memorials may
be directed to Marcia Volk, in memory of Ralph.

Ralph was born June 12, 1924, the son of Samuel and Myrtle (Ellison) Volk,
in Steamboat Rock, Iowa. He graduated from Steamboat Rock High School and
attended AIB College in Des Moines. Ralph entered the United States Army and
was honorably discharged in 1946. He married Marcia Ames on June 30, 1950, in
Eldora, Iowa, and to this union two children were born.

Ralph worked for Martin Marietta as a superintendent most of his life, and
later managed the Thornton City Park for Cerro Gordo County for 13 years.

Ralph was known as a master tinkerer, but the main joy of his life was his
family, especially his children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He was
a devoted father, grandfather and great grandfather who loved when his
grandchildren would come visit him. Ralph was a lifetime member of the V.F.W.,
and a member of the Disabled Vets of America.

He is survived by his wife, Marcia, Clear Lake; his daughter, Susan
(Michael) Janka, Clear Lake; grandchildren, Hillary Janka, Clear Lake, Craig
(Nicole) Volk, Lakeville, Minn., Kristin (Aaron) Anderson, Waverly, Iowa, Ryan
(Kristin) Volk, Altoona, Iowa, and Holli Gorman, New Hampton, Iowa;
step-grandsons Jason (Mandy) Janka, Curlew, Iowa, Jeremy Janka, Clarion, Iowa;
great-grandchildren, Reece Volk, Trice Anderson and Caleb Volk;
step-great-grandchildren, Jordyn Janka, Jason Green, Jordan Green, Jade Green
and Jacob Green; several nieces and nephews; and extended family members Jim
(Janet) Gorman, New Hampton.

Ralph was preceded in death by his parents; his son, Timothy Craig Volk who
died in 1983; his mother and father-in-law; and his grandparents.
