Daren Eldon Russell, 82, of 200 North 15th Street, Clear Lake, died Friday, Dec.
2, 2005, at the Oakwood Care Center, Clear Lake.
Funeral service will be held 10:30 a.m., Wednesday, Dec. 7, at Ward Van Slyke
Colonial Chapel, Clear Lake, with Pastor Dale F. Glawatz officiating. Interment
will be in Clear Lake Cemetery with military honors conducted by members of the
Clear Lake Honor Guard. Memorials may be directed to the Daren E. Russell Memorial Fund.

Daren Eldon Russell was born Dec. 9, 1922, in Arnolds Park, Iowa, the son of
Marion A. and Ruby L. (Miller) Russell. Daren graduated from Arnolds Park High
School in 1941, then attended one year at Omaha University. He enlisted in the
Army Air Corp on Nov. 9, 1942 and was honorably discharged Jan. 30, 1946. He moved
to Arnolds Park and the Spencer area where he worked for a dry cleaning
business. Daren was united in marriage to Florence Klute on June 3, 1951, in
Niles, Mich. To this union three children were born. Together they moved to
Council Bluffs, Iowa where he managed Max I. Walker Dry Cleaning for 18 years.
They moved to Clear Lake in 1970 and bought the Cottage Cleaners and
Laundromat. Daren enjoyed the dry cleaning business for 43 years; retiring in
1988.

Daren enjoyed gardening, fishing, traveling, and woodworking. His greatest love
was spending time with his family and friends. He was a member of the St.
Paul's Lutheran Church, Garner, Iowa; former member of the Noon Lions Club,
Clear Lake; member of the Board of Adjustments for the City of Clear Lake;
Member of the National Association of Dry Cleaners, and a member of the Sons of
Union Veterans of the Civil War.

Daren is survived by his wife, Florence Russell, of Clear Lake; children,
Pamela (David) Grill, of Clear Lake, Steven Russell, of Clear Lake, Susan (Gary)
Swartwood, of Mason City: grandchildren, April (Dave) Stumo, of Clear Lake,
SSgt William (Mary) Barnett, of Belleville, Ill., Amanda Barnett and special
friend, (Ryan Carlson), of Clear Lake, Sarah Swartwood, of Chicago, Ill, Joshua
Swartwood, of Mason City, and Elizabeth Swartwood, of Mason City; two
great-grandchildren, Daren and Cheyenne Barnett, of Belleville, Ill; along with
nieces, nephews, and other relatives and friends.
Daren is preceded in death by his parents and two sisters.
