July 22, 2008Bernice INGHAM, 93, of Swaledale, died Thursday, July 17, 2008 at the Rockwell Community Nursing Home. Funeral services were held Monday, July 21 at the Swaledale United Methodist Church with Pastor Keith L. SCOTT of Wesley United Methodist Church presiding. Interment was at Pleasant Valley Cemetery, Swaledale.
Retz-Grarup Funeral Home, Thornton, was in charge of the arrangements.
Bernice Bessie was born May 13, 1915 at Bradford, a daughter of George and Bessie (HARMS) HARKEN. At a young age her family moved to Thornton and she attended and graduated from Thornton High School. She was raised in the Methodist Church.
On Feb. 9, 1934, Bernice was united in marriage with Fines INGHAM at the Thornton Methodist parsonage. They farmed in the Swaledale area and raised their five children. In addition to being a farm wife Bernice worked for Eno Seed Farms during harvest.
Bernice was a member of the Swaledale and Rockwell Baptist Churches. Her family remembers her as being a great cook and baker. She liked to embroider and crochet, often giving her handiwork away. She was happiest when she had a project to do. Bernice was proud of her children and grandchildren and also enjoyed playing Five Hundred and doing crosswords and word search puzzles.
Cherishing her memory are her children: Lois WOIWOD, Garner; George (Nancy) INGHAM, Swaledale; Shirley (Bob) BRADY, Sheffield; Dorothy BRADY, Mason City; Eddie (Kathy) INGHAM, Rochester, Minn.; 19 grandchildren; 21 great grandchildren and 14 great-great grandchildren; sister-in-law: Josie FERNAU ENGLAND, Ruthven; many nieces, nephews and cousins.
Bernice is preceded in death by her parents; husband; four brothers: John, Dick, Tom and Richard HARKEN; two sisters: Lucille and one in infancy; two sons-in-law: Don WOIWOD and Melvin BRADY; daughter-in-law: Lucy INGHAM and grandsons Wayne BRADY and one in infancy.
