Eunice Lillian Ashland, 92, 2217 S. Lakeview Dr., Clear Lake, passed away
peacefully Monday, Feb. 8, 2010, in her sleep.A funeral service was held Saturday, Feb. 13, at Ward-Van Slyke Colonial
Chapel, Clear Lake, with the Rev. Jeff Ungs of Galilean Lutheran Church
officiating. Interment was at the Clear Lake Cemetery on Tuesday, Feb. 16.
Memorials may be given to the American Heart Association and Zion Lutheran
Church.Eunice was born Aug. 21, 1917 in Leland, (Winnebago County) Iowa, the youngest
of three daughters of Rudolph and Lillian (Nonnweiler) Bienert. Eunice grew up
on the family farm and attended country school. She married Robert F. Evanson
and they were blessed with four children. As a farmer’s wife she became a
skilled cook and used those skills later when she cooked in many restaurants
including 10 and one-half years at Halford’s Café. Her family will always
remember the wonderful meals she prepared for them.Eunice lived in Clear Lake 62 years. She married Arthur E. Ashland Nov. 24,
1961 at the Little Brown Church, Nashua, Iowa. Afterwards they bought a home
on South Shore Drive where they enjoyed the lake activities year round. She was
a life-time member of the V.F.W. Auxiliary, played golf, danced and enjoyed
bowling. Eunice was a member of Zion Lutheran Church.
In later years, she enjoyed playing bridge with her friends, feeding the birds,
squirrels and stray cats. Her family is very grateful that she enjoyed her
independence in her golden years.The family would like to thank her devoted neighbors, Bennett, Darlene and
Shari D. Smith, and John Fehn who lovingly assisted her in a variety of chores.Eunice is survived by her three daughters, Dixie Lee Crump and her husband,
Dick, Olathe, Kansas, Donna Dell Hanson and her husband, Darrell, Pekin, Ill.,
and Diane Fay Heibel and her husband, Moxie, Thornton, Iowa; step-daughter,
Kathy Ashland, Las Vegas, Nev.; 14 grandchildren; numerous great-grandchildren
and great-great-grandchildren; sister-in-law, Francis Bienert, Forest City,
Iowa; and several nieces and nephews.Eunice was preceded in death by her son, Robert L. Evanson; husband, Art,
(1997); her parents; two sisters, Ruby Isebrand and Evelyn Paulson; step-mother,
Norma Bienert; and half-brother, Franklin Bienert.
