Maxine Elaine Poole was born on Dec. 25, 1920, the daughter of Ole and Ingeborg
(Klevrud) Skogen in Thompson, Iowa. She attended and received her education in
the Thompson and Lake Mills, Iowa schools. On Jan. 8, 1940, she was married to
John Albert Poole whom she cherished and loved with all her heart for the rest
of her life.
Maxine worked for Food Land and Red Owl Foods before going to work at Ritters
Nursing Home where she worked for 10 years and helped care for her mother.
Maxine enjoyed the 4th of July, where she would always look for her
grandchildren. She looked forward to her daughter, Beverly, coming over to the
lake with her grandchildren, so they all could go to the beach and then walk up
to the Corner Drug Store for a cherry Coke. Maxine also liked to gamble and
would go whenever she got the chance. She loved playing cards with her
daughter, Beverly, and spending time with her grandchildren and
great-grandchildren. For 20 years Maxine would go on a summer vacation out west
with her son, Ron, and daughter-in-law, Shirley.
Maxine loved her family and in very special ways touched many lives, and the
memories will remain there forever.
Left to cherish her memory is her son; Ron Poole and his wife, Shirley, of Clear
Lake; five grandchildren, Dawn Liekweg and her husband, Todd, of Rockwell,
Iowa, Michelle Wyborny and her husband, Dan, of Rock Falls, Iowa, Jon Mariner
and his wife, Sheryl, David Mariner and his wife, Kim, and Rod Mariner and his
wife, Jodi, all of Mason City; 15 great-grandchildren, Chelsey, Casey and
Cheyenne Liekweg, Weston, Dalton and Macy Jo Wyborny, Joseph, Kristin, Brittany,
Dylan, McKenzie, Jessica, Alex, Lucas, and Erika Mariner, as well as other
relatives and friends.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 66 years, John, who died on March
25, 2006; her loving daughter, Beverly; her parents; two brothers, Helmer and
Oscar, and five sisters; Anna, Olga, Ida, Irene, and Agnes.
Ward-Van Slyke Colonial Chapel was in charge of arrangements.
