John Leonard Tatro, 54, 10284 300th St., Mason City, Iowa, passed away
Tuesday, April 20, 2004 at St. Mary's Hospital, Rochester, Minn. Funeral
services were held Saturday, April 24, at the United Methodist Church, Clear
Lake. The Rev. Jan Burnett and the Rev. Jeff Ungs officiated. Interment was
held at the Clear Lake Cemetery. Memorials may be given to the John Tatro
Memorial Fund.
John was born April 30, 1949 in Concordia, Kan., the son of Leonard and
Dorothy (Barker) Tatro. His family moved to Mason City when John was young.
He attended and graduated from Mason City High School in 1968 and went to
NIACC for one year. John married Jean Prestholt June 20, 1976 at the United
Methodist Church, Clear Lake. To this union one son, Chuck, was born. John
worked at Armour and Company and then Opportunity Village for 20 years.
Boy Scouts were very important to John. He was a former Scout Master and
Assistant Scout Master for Troop 30 of Clear Lake. His hobbies included
hunting, fishing, wood-working, the Boy Scouts and mountain hiking. He
enjoyed spending time at the Boundary Waters and anything to do with nature.
John was a lifetime member of NRA and the Boy Scouts. He was a member of the
St. Andrews Episcopal Church of Clear Lake.
John is survived by his wife, Jean Tatro, Mason City; his son, Chuck Tatro,
Greeley, Colo. and his special friend, Heather Pitner, Loveland, Colo.; John's
parents, Leonard and Dorothy Tatro, Concordia, Kan.; one sister, Jolene
Springer and her husband, Harold, Hampton, Iowa; three brothers, Jack Tatro
and his wife, Gerda, Jamestown, Kan., Jeff Tatro and his wife, Drenna,
Concordia, Kan., Jim Tatro and his children, Andy, Eli, and Melissa, Fort
Collins, Colo. and several other nieces and nephews.
John was preceded in death by his sister, Joyce Tatro.
