LAVERN W. MILLER
CLEAR LAKE - LaVern W. Miller, 79, 101 S. 21st St., Clear Lake, died Saturday (March 20, 2004) at the Abbott Northwestern Hospital, Minneapolis, Minn. Funeral services will be held at 1:30 p.m. Wednesday at the Ward-Van Slyke Colonial Chapel, 101 N. Fourth St. in Clear Lake, with the Rev. Jan Burnett officiating. Interment will be held at the Clear Lake Cemetery, Clear Lake, with Military Honors provided by the Clear Lake V.F.W. Visitation will be held from 4 to 7 p.m. today at the Ward-Van Slyke Colonial Chapel. Memorials may be given to the LaVern W. Miller Memorial Fund. LaVern was born April 28, 1924, in Clear Lake, the son of Lloyd and Ina (Edwards) Miller. He graduated from Clear Lake High School. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II. LaVern married Pearl Louise Wagner on April 28, 1945, in Wesley. After serving in the Army, they moved back to the Clear Lake area where he farmed from 1950 to 1966. They then moved into town and LaVern worked for Stinehart Implement and Brakke Implement until his retirement in 1986. LaVern enjoyed traveling, woodworking, collecting toy farm machinery and family reunions. He was a member of the Clear Lake United Methodist Church and the Clear Lake V.F.W. LaVern is survived by his wife, Pearl Miller, of Clear Lake; four children, Linda Barlow and her husband Larry, of Clear Lake, Charlene Schabacker and husband Konnie, of Mason City, Nancy Ashland and her husband Al, of Clear Lake and LaVonne Pedelty and her husband Dale, of Mason City; eight grandchildren John Barlow, of Owatonna, Minn., Teresa Klein and her husband Ernie, of Clear Lake, Joe Barlow and his wife Becky, of Clear Lake, Sheila Groeneweg and her husband Kirk, of Clear Lake, Patti Jencks and her husband Mark, of Hawkeye, Matt Spencer, of Cedar Falls, Lucas Ashland and Will Ashland, of Clear Lake; 14 great-grandchildren; one brother Dwayne Miller and his wife, Ardith, of Charles City; and one sister, Dorothy Jean Heimendinger and her husband, Orville, of Osage. LaVern was preceded in death by his parents, a brother, Orville Miller; sister, Bonnie Miller; and two grandchildren, Dan Jensen and Shannon Jensen.
