REUBEN E. GRELL
CLEAR LAKE - Reuben E. Grell, 83, 18074 C Grouse Ave., died Wednesday (Jan. 24, 2001) at his home.
The funeral will be held at 3 p.m. Friday at United Methodist Church, 508 Second Ave. N., Clear Lake, with the Rev. Fred Lewis officiating. Interment will be at the Clear Lake Cemetery, with military honors performed by the Clear Lake V.F.W.
Visitation will be at 1:30 p.m. Friday before the service at the church. Memorials may be given to the Reuben Grell Memorial Fund.
Reuben was born Feb. 8, 1917, the son of John and Flora (Hesley) Grell, near Thompson. He lived in the Clear Lake area most of his life. He attended rural schools. He graduated from Clear Lake High School and Iowa State University in 1940.
Reuben served in the Army Air Force and was discharged in 1943. Reuben married Betty M. Treloar on May 16, 1942.
He was an industrial arts teacher at Clear Lake from 1944-1954. He was a building contractor until 1960. He designed for Forester RV Industries in Forest City until he retired in 1980.
He was a life-long member of the Clear Lake United Methodist Church and was also a member of the American Legion.
After retirement he enjoyed his hobby of wood turning. He was a charter member of the American Association of Wood Turners. He shared this talent and many others with his family and friends. He also enjoyed gardening and raising irises. He will be greatly missed by us all.
He is survived by his wife of 58 years, Betty Grell; five daughters, Judith Gordon and her husband, Tennis, Rock Falls, Sharon Shuster and her husband, Paul, LaPorte, Minn., Deborah Hansen and her husband, Russell, Collins, Lori Severtson and her husband, Mark, Oregon, Wis., and Gigi Lisitza and her husband, Larry, Elkhorn, Neb.; seven grandchildren, Dawn and Michael Hansen, Joshua, Jessica and Joe Shuster, and Bjorn and Rolf Severtson; two step-grandchildren, Lance and Lucas Lisitza; one great-grand-daughter, Daeya Shuster; three sisters Vy Dolch and her husband, Dan, Onancock, Va., Frances Robbins and her husband, Wendell, Colorado Springs, Colo., and Velmadeen Shaw, Cedar Falls; and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; four half-brothers, Floyd Schram, Oliver Schram, Roy Schram and Merrill Schram; sisters, Ethel Lackore and Myrtle Bowlin; and brother Orval Grell.
We will miss him more than words can say! Thank You.
