G. Fred Opel dies suddenly

CLEAR LAKE - G. F. (Fred) OPEL, 51, died suddenly Wednesday afternoon [September 26] at his home, 1109 1st Ave. N. He has a previous heart attack in April.

Funeral arrangements are incomplete at the Wilcox Funeral Home.

George Frederick OPEL Jr. was born Oct. 17, 1910, at Oskaloosa to George Frederick and Mary (CONKLIN) OPEL. At the age of 2 he came to Clear Lake with his parents and has lived here since.

He was graduated from Clear Lake High School and Hamilton College, Mason City. He has been a general agent for the Hawkeye Mutual Hail Insurance Co. since 1940. Previous to 1940, he was a salesman for International Harvestor Co., Mason City, for six years.

During World War II he was with the U.S. Army from November 1943 until December 1945, serving 1 1/2 years with an ordnance battalion on Guadalcanal.

He was a member of the Christian Church and the Clear Lake Rifle and Pistol Club. He was married to Ethelyn MATHIASON Aug. 28, 1937, at Mason City.

He is survived by his wife, Ethelyn, and one son, Fritz, 19. He was preceded in death by his parents.

[Interment was made at Clear Lake Cemetery.]
