November 14, 1914 - November 28, 2003CLEAR LAKE — Arthur E. Rowe Jr., 89, of Clear Lake, died Friday (Nov. 28, 2003) at Mercy Medical Center-North Iowa.
Graveside services will be held at 2 p.m. Tuesday in Elmwood Cemetery with the Rev. Ron Stein, First Baptist Church officiating.
Arthur was born on Nov. 14, 1914, in Mason City, the son of Arthur E. and Alvina K. (Jaacks) Rowe Sr. He graduated from Mason City High School with the class of 1933.
He served in the Army during World War II. Following his service, he lived in Maryland for a time. Upon his return to Mason City, he worked for the American Crystal Sugar Co. and for Blackmore Nursery until his retirement in 1971.
He was married to Ruth Awe in Council Bluffs. Following his retirement, they lived in Bentonville, Ark., where he lived on a chicken farm and enjoyed working with and breeding hybrid irises. He returned to the Mason City, Clear Lake area in the mid ’90s.
He is survived by his sisters, Priscilla Overturf, of Freeport, Ill. and Marcielle Millard and her husband, Robert, of Northwood; nephew, Darrell Overturf and his wife, Marianne, of Freeport, Ill.; nieces, Jill Millard, of Rochester, Minn., Amy Bachtle and Bob Bulver, of Owatonna, Minn., and JoEllen Uhl and her husband, David, of Eden Prairie, Minn.; as well as great nieces and nephews.
Arthur was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Ruth; brother, Chester Rowe, sister, Doloris “Bonnie” Rowe, two nieces; one nephew; and aunts and uncles.
