Saturday, July 14, 2012Clear Lake, Iowa - Jerry Duane SCOTT, 74, 12024 Dogwood Ave., Clear Lake, died Friday, July 13, 2012, at his home, after a courageous battle with cancer surrounded by family.
A memorial service will be held 11 a.m., Monday, July 16, at Ward-Van Slyke Colonial Chapel, 101 N. Fourth St., Clear Lake, with the Rev. Arthur VEWERT, Chaplin of Hospice North Iowa, officiating. Visitation with family will begin at 10 a.m. until the service. According to his wishes, his body has been cremated. Military Honors will be provided by the Clear Lake V.F.W. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to Hospice of North Iowa.
Jerry was born June 15, 1938, in Mason City, the son of Roy W. and Luceal (SPILMAN) SCOTT. He graduated from Ventura High School in 1956. He enlisted with the U.S. Air Force in August of 1956. Following the service, he lived in the Carolinas where he did commercial painting. Jerry moved back to Clear Lake in the mid-60's and began farming.
Jerry married Zelda HEGINGER June 14, 1969, at the Little Brown Church in Nashua. They had three children. Farming was in Jerry's blood. He loved to talk "farming" with his family and friends and complete strangers. He was happiest with a little dirt under his nails. He also loved time spent with family, hunting and fishing.
Jerry is survived by his with Zelda, Clear Lake; three children Terry SCOTT and his special friend Dayna LARSON, Meservey, Tami CAVETT and her husband Chad, Clear Lake, and Jason SCOTT and his wife Renea, Clear Lake; five grandchildren; Ashley and Shelby SCOTT, Caleb and Caden CAVETT, Destiny SCOTT; brother Russell SCOTT and his girlfriend Sue MYERS, Mason City; sisters Sharon PETERSBURG and her husband Ray, Loveland, Colo., and Jan LANSINK and her husband George, Cedar Falls, and numerous nieces, nephews, in-laws and cousins.
Jerry was preceded in death by his parents: Roy and Luceal SCOTT and son Jerry Jr.
