Father Arthur Merfeld

DOUGHERTY- Funeral services for Father Arthur Merfeld, 81, of Mary Knoll, N. Y., formery of Dougherty, will be 11:45 a.m. Wednesday at St. Theresa's Chapel, Mary Knoll, N.Y.

Father Merfeld died Sunday (July 13, 1986) at a retirment home in Mary Knoll.

He was born May 13, 1905, at Dougherty to John and Mary Merfeld. He was ordained July 10, 1932, at Winona, Minn.

He served as a missonary in Japan during World War II and spent three months in a concentration camp in Japan as a prisoner of war.

He served most of his life as a Mary Knoll missonary and spent his last years in a retirement home in Mary Knoll.

Surviors include a sister, Bertha O'Connor Tienan, Mason City; four brothers, Albert of Belmond;Leo, Sacarmento, Calif.; John of Charles City, and the Rev. Vince Merfeld of San Bernardino, Calif., and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, a brother and four sisters.
